Hi Loves! My name is Mel Pillard. I am
a 20-something, God-fearing single mom searching for my purpose in this chaotic
world while raising my son. From the outside looking it, it seems I have it all
together, I’ve worked hard and overcome a lot of hardships but I still have a
ways to go. Each day I wake up with the intentions of trying to become a better
me. I know that becoming the best version of me will not only benefit me but my
son as well. My motivation and drive is found within my son. He gives me an
unconditional love I’ve never had, the push I needed to reach my full potential
and for that I owe him the best version of me. Everyday I’m striving to be a woman,
mom, friend & role model.
I was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, though my
family eventually moved to Memphis, Tennessee. In Memphis, I spent 20 years
being molded into the tough, resilient, and courageous woman you see now.
Sometimes, my strength surprises me but then I remember where I come from- I
WAS BUILT FOR THIS. Everything I have endured has contributed to my success and
growth. It sounds cliché, but I know that every obstacle that I have faced is a
lesson. The emotional and physically abusive relationships, co,-parenting and my
career path were all lessons I needed to experience; lessons that have allowed
me to walk in my truth and be unapologetic about my decisions and desires.
As a teen, I thought I had it all
figured out...I had a plan…a plan that I knew would work...a plan that
consisted of me having every step of my life figured out. Needless to say, that
plan didn't work. Has anyone’s teenage life plan ever actually worked? If I
could give my 18 year old self some advice, it would be this: relax. RELAX.
It's not the end of the world if things don't go as planned. It simply means God
has a better plan for you.
When I graduated from high school, I thought I
would go to college, graduate, relocate to a major city and work a six figure
job. You know what most teenage girls dream of- living a jet setting lifestyle
with lots of money, a closet full of designer clothes and a man who adores you.
My God had another plan for me, one I do not question even when I am
discouraged.
I earned a Bachelor of Arts from the
University of Memphis in Journalism/Public Relations, but it was a journey
unlike any other. I attended three colleges (Lane College, Arkansas State
University & The University of Memphis) during my undergrad, became a mom -
a single mom and I discovered my passion for helping others. This passion led
me to an interest in non-profit work. Eventually, I hope to start a nonprofit
to assist low income single mothers. I find true bliss in helping others; it
fills with me joy and helps me walk in what I believe to be my purpose.
The numerous social media messages from women
seeking parenting advice, beauty tips & a shoulder to lean on led me to
create this blog. With this blog I hope to inspire women to always remain true
to themselves and trust that everything will eventually work out…even when it feels as if
the odds are stacked against you.
Though they stumble, the will never fall, for the Lord holds
them by the hand. - Psalms 37:24
